Heineken opens new distribution center in Georgia

Savannah, Feb 2008 – Heineken USA began operations February 5th at its newest distribution center, a 100,000-square-foot facility in Savannah. The center will serve as the port of call for more than 4,000 containers shipped from the company’s international breweries every year—that’s 7 million cases of Heineken beer bound for distributors in Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama.

“Any time you brew beer 3,000 miles away, you’re going to face a series of logistical challenges in getting that product to your customers in a timely manner,” said Gregory S. Sommer, director of supply chain optimization for Heineken USA. “With this new demand point (in Savannah), not only do we expect to meet that goal, it will lay the groundwork for further expansion in the Southeast.”

According to Sommer, Heineken expects the Southeast to be its second-fastest growing U.S. region within the next five years.
