Education
Our commitment to building the best, most proficient workforce and keeping the best minds at home is evident in the number of quality education programs, services and resources we have in Georgia. We start young and finish strong when it comes to education – and that helps you and your business reach the next level and beyond.
Pre-University
Free primary and secondary education is provided for children ages 5-18. More than 1.6 million students are currently enrolled in Georgia’s schools.
Atlanta also hosts an International School offering bilingual schooling in English and German, French or Spanish. German, French, Swedish and Japanese schools offer courses on Saturdays to serve the large expatriate community.
More than 20 high schools, middle schools and elementary schools offer the International Baccalaureate Program.
University
Georgia has the fourth largest university system in the nation with more than 253,000 students enrolled in 70 colleges and universities. These include academically acclaimed schools like the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Georgia, as well as many well-known private institutions such as Emory University, Berry College and Morehouse College.
Georgia taxpayers also benefit from the HOPE (Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally) scholarship since its inception in 1993. Financed by the Georgia Lottery, the scholarship pays for the tuition, books and fees of high-achieving, eligible Georgia students attending state colleges, universities and technical colleges who maintain a “B” average. More than $2.7 billion in financial assistance have been awarded to more than 850,000 deserving Georgia students so far.
Confirming the importance of commercial and international relations with Europe, the University System of Georgia was one of 10 in the U.S. selected by the European Union in 1998 to host a European Union Center. This center promotes the study of the EU, its institutions and policies and EU-U.S. relations.
